NOTICE OF IMPORTANT HCV WORKSHOP

What:  Information/discussion with Dept of State Development – Mineral Resources representatives

Topic:  Understanding the Hillside Mining Lease Conditions

When:  6.30 pm – 9.30 pm  Monday, 16th February 2015

Where:   Ardrossan Community Club

As per the attached flyer from the newly formed Hillside Community Voice, senior representatives from the Department of State Development – Mineral Resources (formerly DMITRE) will facilitate a public Information and Discussion Session covering:

  • Mining Lease conditions for the Hillside Project and
  • The community’s role (via the HCV) in the development of Rex’s Program for Environmental Protection and Rehabilitation Program (PEPR).

This is the community’s first opportunity since the Hillside Mining Lease was approved in August 2014 to get some answers from the Government Regulators and to convey our  concerns about the mining lease conditions which Rex have to meet IF Hillside goes ahead.

Although the Government has described the 98 Hillside conditions as ‘stringent’,  YPLOG does not believe they go far enough in protecting the community from the negative consequences of this massive mine.

We will therefore be asking a number of questions about the conditions and compliance monitoring.  We also want to know why the government is allowing the process to continue when Rex are not yet in a position to tell us what they intend to do as part of their proposed smaller start-up.

We want as many people as possible to come along to ask questions and to listen.

Through your attendance, we can also send a clear message to Government that Rex does not have a social licence to operate – that many in the community do not support Hillside because of its unacceptable risks to long-term agriculture and the environment.

If you are unable to attend, please ask someone else – a family member, friend, neighbour – to come in your place.

For your information, a copy of the Mining Lease Tenement Document is also attached.  Schedules 2 and 6 contain the conditions imposed by government on Hillside.

If you require further details, please contact us on 0487 431366.

We hope to see you on Monday 16th February 2015.
